GAIT ANALYSIS

Free Gait Analysis in Staffordshire

Different running shoes suit different running styles. Just like how we all walk differently, the way we run varies too. If you’re unsure of the best running shoes for you, our free gait analysis can help.

WHO NEEDS A GAIT ANALYSIS?

Maybe you’re a new runner looking to step things up a gear, or maybe you already have and your current running shoes just aren’t cutting it anymore.

If you’ve experienced an injury, or you’re feeling soreness in your joints whilst running this could partly be because your shoes aren’t right for you. With the right running shoes, you’ll reduce the likelihood of injuries and be able to become a better runner.

How does a gait analysis work?

Our gait analysis sessions typically last 30 minutes. We’ll then recommend the best running shoes that will provide the ideal comfort and support to enhance your performance. There's no obligation to purchase from us - we’ll simply advise on the best choice of running shoes for you.

We discuss your running

We start with a discussion so our team can learn more about your running goals and any previous injuries that may affect your running potential.

Let's run!

We’ll give you a pair of neutral running shoes and ask you to spend some time on our running machine. We will be looking for signs that indicate your running style, and this part of the session will be recorded.

Expert advice

Based on your recording, our experienced team will offer advice on your running technique and advise on which type of running shoes will give you optimum performance. The test will be run again to confirm our recommendations.

Gait Explained

A gait analysis will measure how you run, including how your foot rolls when it hits the ground - this is called pronation. The type of pronation you have will impact what shoes are best suited to your running style. Choosing the right running shoes for your gait means your body doesn’t have to compensate as much, reducing the impact on your joints and muscles.

Over Pronation

This is the most common running style - more than ⅔ of people overpronate. As your foot lands, it rolls inward excessively or in an uncontrolled way. This transfers the weight to the inner edge instead of centring it on the ball of your foot. Overpronation is often seen in runners with low arches or flat feet. It can cause pain and is associated with common injuries in the foot, knee and back.

Neutral

The foot lands on the outer edge and then rolls inward in a controlled way. This distributes weight evenly and helps to absorb shocks. This running style is also very common.

Under Proation or Supination

The least common type of pronation, it’s the opposite of over pronation. The foot is more rigid and doesn’t fully roll inwards when it hits the ground. This impacts how your body absorbs the landing impact and can send a shock through the lower leg. It is often seen in runners with high arches.
